2. Materials and methods
2.1. Collection of samples
All marine organisms were collected in the South-Eastern Mediterranean Italian
coast from May to June 2006. The species chosen are very important
commercially and have a significant interest for food use. These species include benthic,
demersal and pelagic fish, cephalopod molluscs and crustaceans
Pooled edible portion of the similar size specimens was taken
and stored below 20 C pending analysis. The number of individual specimens
per pool varied depending on the species
