Entomological investigation
A demographic map of the study villages and surveyed houses
was prepared. An entomological investigation was carried
out to understand the density of vectors responsible for viral
transmission. A larval survey was conducted by searching
mosquito breeding sites inside and outside houses, using the
single larval survey (SLS) technique.10 Larvae were identified
by visual inspection of their appearance and movement in
water, by the district public health specialist/epidemiologist.
Analysis and calculation of the standard Aedes larval indices,
such as House Index (HI), Container Index (CI) and Breteau
Index (BI), were carried out, to estimate the prevalence and
infestation level of vectors in the locality.
