Once the funds, charter, and permits are in hand, refer to the timetable and start
negotiating contracts; purchasing equipment, materials, and supplies; selecting, hiring,
and training employees; establishing a marketing program; setting the legal structure in
place: and developing an information system to maintain the records needed to run the
business.
You are now a small business owner! You are operating your own business, you
have all the risks, and you hope to receive the benefits and rewards of being on your
own. Be ready for unforeseen problems, however, that may occur during the startup
period.
Sample Business Plan
A sample business plan is presented as an appendix at the end of this chapter. It is a proposal for a new business center. Notice that it closely follows the form as presented in
Figure 6.8.
