Here’s a serious road with some serious design. Located in South Korea, there’s a 15-mile stretch of road that runs between Gumi city station and In-Dong district that not only provides a paved way for traffic to get from A to B, but powers electric vehicles at the same time.
Electric cables under the road’s surface create electromagnetic fields and receiving coils on the bus’ underbody tune to a particular frequency to convert it to electricity. Imagine being able to drive your electric vehicle without ever having to stop, all thanks to a road that charges the battery.
Right now the city of Gumi is planning to add 10 more buses to their fleet. Let’s hope smart roads like these can be used in the future for cars, too. No more petrol stations, ever!
