Each bookwasassociatedwithasetofreplicatoysthatwasusedintheplaysessionthatfollowed
each reading.Someofthesetoyswereusedintheplaysessionforbothbooksinthetheme,most
notably alargesetpiece:acastlefortheFantasticalthemeandafarmhousefortheRealistictheme.A
subset ofthetoyswasassociatedwithaparticularbook(e.g.,apumpkinfor Pumpkin Soup) andwas
only usedduringthefourdayswhenthatbookwasread,notfortheotherbookinthattheme(e.g.,
the pumpkindidnotappearinthetoysetfor Farmer Duck).
1.2.6. Playscripts
Like thebookreadingportionoftheintervention,theplaysessionsalsohadscriptsfordefiningand
using theTargetwords.Forexample,somescriptsencouragedthechildrentoactoutasectionofthe
book withtheirprops,whileotherscriptsaskedchildrenopen-endedquestionsaboutsomeaspectof
their play.Targetwordswereusedinthecourseofgivingtheseinstructionsoraskingthesequestions.
In boththemes,eachTargetwordwasscriptedtobeusedthreetimesinaplaysessionanddefined
once.
