I used my Garmin Fenix 3 sports watch to compare the stats generated by the inbuilt SpeedX computer, and they were pretty close: I racked up 20.5km according to my Garmin, and the SpeedX reported 20.2km. I know, that’s not very far, but I did spend a while fiddling with the computer and saddle height.
The own-brand handlebars are shallow-drop with a slight outwards flare and aero shaping on the tops. I liked them, they certainly felt comfortable when sprinting hard from the drops along the Clifton Suspension Bridge and I managed to get up to 48kph along there. The Selle Royal saddle is plenty comfy too.
I didn’t like the wheels or tyres specced so much though: the Vittoria Zaffiro is reliable enough training rubber, but it came in 23mm width, which is too narrow for my liking. There’s room for running 25s and that's the first change I’d make.
However, it was the SpeedX own-brand wheels that troubled me the most – they felt flexy and the braking surface was a little unpredictable. Please do bear in mind that I only rode this bike for an hour, so these are very early impressions, and it’s probably worth adding that I’m on the heavier side at 78kg.
