Britain’s Bradley Smith and Scott Redding stood next to Marc Marquez on the Misano MotoGP podium today after mixed conditions and two different pitstop strategies saw them able to claim 20 and 16 points respectively.
Redding crashed early doors when the rain came down but made it back to the pits, changed bikes to wets, then came in again, put the soft-option rear slick to good use to set fastest lap after fastest lap to move up the order and pass Loris Baz with four laps to go for third.
Brave Smith stayed out on slicks and tip-toed around in the wet, waited for a dry line and took a triumphant second career MotoGP podium, crossing the line seven seconds behind the reigning champion. He has now leapfrogged Andrea Dovizoso for fifth in the championship chase and is now 24 points behind Andrea Iannone in fourth
