Partnering with religious communities is not only possible but, in many cases, essential to addressing violence against children and promoting systems at national and community levels to enhance the protective environment for children. Although it is important to be respectful, there should be no compromise on ensuring the safety of children and immediately responding when religion is used to justify harmful beliefs and practices that violate a child's physical, emotional, and spiritual integrity. To be effective, partnerships with religious communities need to be integrated within broader child protection strategies engaging all key stakeholders. Effective communication leads to a deeper understanding of how each partner approaches the issues at hand, even when they may seem, at the outset, to be at odds.
