With cash being the most common and convenient method of payment within the global supermarket sector, cash management solutions are swiftly moving to the top of the list of priorities for supermarket owners. Tellermate’s consultative approach to cash management solutions has the world’s leading supermarket chains turning to us for help and support with their cash counting.
Part of the large retail group ‘Les Mousquetaires’, Intermarché has over 1,800 stores throughout France and is separated into a number of sub-brands, Super, Hyper, Express and Contact. Intermarché’s aim is to combat expensive living; giving their customers what they need at a low price.
Manual cash counts were taking up a lot of staff time at Intermarché. Miscounts and discrepancies were commonplace and staff had to dedicate working hours to rectify these mistakes, rather than focusing on other important aspects of the business. Intermarché recognised that this had become a serious problem and needed a new cash management solution, thus beginning the relationship between Intermarché and Tellermate.
Studies carried out by Tellermate concluded that Intermarché would save a significant amount of time using the T-iX 2000 coin and note counter, compared to counting all takings by hand.
Intermarché loved the fact that they were not restricted to using their cash counter in the back office. The portability of the unit meant that each cashier could have their own cash counter at their desks to carry out cash lifts throughout the day.
Christine Gallard, Head Cashier at Intermarché in Angers, noticed a positive change in her cashiers since the arrival of Tellermate.
“Our cashiers, even ones who have worked here a long time, were always stressed about cashing up and scared of making mistakes. Now they are more natural”.
Cashiers now have a more positive outlook on the cashing up process; thanks to Tellermate, there have been significant changes. Cashiers don’t need as much time to count their cash drawers because of how fast the cash counter makes the process. This allows them to spend more time with customers or on profit producing tasks.
“Cashiers are now operating their checkouts for five to ten minutes longer per shift. This gives management more flexibility when planning the rota” says Christine Gallard.
As well as boosting cashier morale, Tellermate has helped Intermarché to eradicate its largest cash management issue – count discrepancies.
When asked about these, Christine Gallard went on to say:
“There are absolutely no errors. If a discrepancy does arise, it is found immediately by the T-iX 2000 and it is a human error.”
Following on from our successful trials, Tellermate cash counters are now actively used at each point of sale at Intermarché stores across France as well as in their in-store cafés and bakeries.
