Green Star: environmental benefits
3.1 GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS
A conditional requirement for Green Star certification is the provision of a modelled estimate of the operational greenhouse gas emissions associated with the building or fitout. The requirements for estimating greenhouse gas emissions are slightly different for each Green Star rating tool, however in all cases, a comparison has been made against a benchmark, with points awarded for reductions to emissions below that benchmark. Advice and requirements for the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions estimations are available from the GBCA website. For the purposes of this study, an analysis for greenhouse gas emissions has been performed for both: New construction, assumed to meet the Green Star Energy Conditional Requirement (Standard Practice new construction); Average greenhouse gas emissions of all existing stock in Australia (Average Performance of existing stock).
