The first step in forming the urban land KPI is to define different land use
categories along the corridor. To get homogeneous data related to that land use,
calculations can be made using the CORINE Land Cover spatial dataset. Within a
buffer radius of 20 km from the median line of each corridor, the total area
of urban land cover can be calculated; this will be put in relation to the total area of
corridor occupied land. The radius of 20 km allows inclusion of the major parts of
even the largest cities along the corridors, takes into account that transports are, in
part, distributed to areas around the defined corridors.
