This review suggests that it remains unclear whether CPM post-operatively has any benefit for patients following ACL reconstructions.
This should, however, be acknowledged with caution since the evidence-base, currently, presents with numerous methodological weaknesses limiting the confidence to which any conclusion on the application of CPM post-operatively, can be made. Further study is required to: improve the evidence-base on this topic; to assess this area further with hamstring tendon grafts; to assess the effects of difference CPM protocols; and to compare the functional outcomes and quality of life for those who receive CPM and those who do not follow the ACL reconstruction.
Only then can the efficacy of CPM be assessed for patients following this procedure. Presently, the absence of strong evidence for effectiveness means that the continued use of CPM cannot be supported.
