The economic performance of Hong Kong's logistics sector was
determined using Eqs. (4a) and (4b). In 2012, air freight produced
HKD 1202 per kilotonne-km of cargo, sea freight HKD 29 per
kilotonne-km of cargo, and land freight HKD 2120 per kilotonnekm
of cargo. Overall speaking, the economic productivity of Hong
Kong's logistics sector was HKD 62 per kilotonne-km of cargo.
Table 5 presents the economic productivity of Hong Kong's logistics
sector from 2007 to 2012. The economic productivity ranged from
HKD 53 to HKD 73 per kilotonne-km of cargo. Air freight yielded the
highest economic gain, followed by land transport.
When different transport modes were standardized to HKD 1
million value added in 2012 i.e. the same economic benefit, it was
found that air freight produced more GHG than sea freight (790.4
vs. 421.1) but required a substantial less amount of work done in
terms of kilotonne-km than sea freight (832 vs. 34,805).
