Recently, fumed silica has shown some advantages in preparing highly active supported catalysts, due to its unique characteristics such as small particle size in the nanometers range, high surface area [17,22,23]. For instance, fumed SiO2 supported Au catalysts, prepared from Au(en)2Cl3 precursor, exhibited excellent catalytic activity for low-temperature oxidation of CO oxidation (below 0 C) [17]. These results suggested that the catalytic performance of silica supported noble metal catalyst might be significantly improved by changing the physicochemical properties of silica supports.
