I’ll just briefly go through the showcases of the exhibit. I recommend that you attend it yourself to get the full details.
Archeology in Singapore showcases some of the artifacts found in Singapore from as far back as the Neolithic ages. Most of the items featured here are cracked potteries or porcelain pieces from the various dynasties, with a few World War II debris and ammunitions.
What was more interesting (to me) was the fact that we have our very own team of archaeologists going around excavating new sites. Archeology in Singapore is a niche discipline and there is a lack of support from the government for archaeological work. Projects operated on shoestring budgets and they are heavily reliant on volunteer labor and resources. Currently, no archaeological protection laws exist in Singapore despite having unearthed many artifacts around the island. Archaeological evaluations are not mandatory by the developers of a site.
