Meditation hit the U.S scene in the 1960s when Beatles guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi gained widespread prominence. Over the next few decades, the Hindu teacher’s Transcendental Meditation (TM) expanded its U.S. presence. Since 1970, there have been 500+ research studies on meditation; TM-related research appeared in the American Heart Association’s Hypertension, the American Journal of Cardiology and Anxiety, Stress and Coping.
