3.3.1. Perceived changes in climate variables
The respondents interviewed perceived climate change as any
variability and change in temperature and rainfall patterns as well
as increasing frequency of extreme climatic events. Participants
were asked how the current climate compared to the past, and the
future climate is expected to compare with the current (Table 4).
Participants perceived that the current rainfall amount and timing
had become unpredictable, and expected this to get worse in the
future. Regarding duration of the wet season, a small portion
(80%) that the wet season would begin later in the
future. A large number of the respondents (68e70%) claimed the
temperature was becoming warmer, while a small proportion
(22e27%) thought itwas cooler. The majority (>70%) of participants
expected temperatures to rise into the future.
