This is a very sweet book with lovable and identifiable characters and an entertaining plot. It is also written in a good form to be a helpful transition to chapter books at approximately 60 pages and 16 chapters. The moral lessons contained in the book, about the value of friends, being different, dealing with being teased, working hard and persevering to learn new skills, and working together to help in times of need are all brought across in a wonderfully subtle and imaginative way. The book also reveres the value of imagination and importance of fun and games amongst learning.
There is occasionally use some colourful language which may not appeal to more liberal parents, but for me I enjoyed it, and nothing my child would not have heard before.
