Tritricosanoyl glycerol (tri23:0) standard was added to
all zooplankton samples before homogenization (60 ng
to the samples of Calanus finmarchicus and 20 ng to
Calanoides acutus, Drepanopus forcipatus and krill larvae).
Zooplankton were homogenized in the chloroform/
methanol 2:1 (v/v) in which they had been stored using
a mini ultra-turrax homogenizer (model T8, S8 N-5G
dispersing tool, IKA-Werke, GmbH & Co., Staufen,
Germany) and then transferred to a conical test tube.
The bottle and homogenizer probe were rinsed with a
further 2 mL of chloroform/methanol which was added
to the original extract and total lipid extracted according
to Folch et al. (Folch et al., 1957)
