Cultural competence was positively associated with NP ethnicity, cultural competence training, certification, interpersonal aspects of care, availability, and convenience of care. These findings suggest that NPs with greater cultural competence are more likely to be Latina, have received cultural competence training, possess certification, and have more acculturated clients. Other findings suggest that NPs with less cultural competence are less likely to speak Spanish and had received the RN degrees long ago and are older.
Nurse Use
Clients are often more satisfied with nursing care when they have an ethnic connection with the provider of that care. Nurses should obtain cultural competence certification and training since they make a difference in their practice and have the potential to contribute to effective client care outcomes.
