A spokesman for the town hall joked that the campaign was a great success because 'even the inflatable representing a giant turd has been "cleaned up"'.
And Local media has made fun of the news, with headlines such as 'The Pride of Torrelodones has been Stolen.'
Now the local authorities are looking at CCTV footage of cameras installed nearby to see if they can find the poo thieves
'That is more or less what this inflatable represents, the amount of poo left on the streets across the town each day. We are asking dog owners, in a fun and non-aggressive way, to realize the importance of clearing up after their pets.'
The inflatable had been accompanied by the sign: 'This is one of the greatest obstacles to community spirit in our town. If you own a dog, please help us.'
It was installed on the 22nd of May and changed location various times as part of the campaign before it was stolen.
