Anxiety is common among pregnant women. However, this anxiety can often become so severe and intense that major complications can arise to both the mom and child. Severe risks of anxiety disorders during pregnancy can result in premature birth and an increased risk for infant morbidity and mortality. Understanding anxiety during pregnancy can aid childbirth educators in not only recognizing a pregnant mother with an anxiety disorder but also provide them with valuable teaching tools regarding healthy growth and development for both the mother and child.
