In many communities, access to schools is restricted in order to protect the children.
However, this makes effective co-operation with educational institutions complex, both for
community level organizations and for other public sector institutions (e.g., departmental
representatives of Health and Justice). Key issues that were identified as problematic were
establishing partnerships with schools and school representatives, working within the policy arena to promote community involvement in schools, and working to build capacity
of both school and community representatives to facilitate and sustain the connections
between schools and communities.
