The impact Māori culture may have on your day-to-day life depends on where you live and what work you do.
Most Māori live in the North Island (86%), with almost a quarter in Auckland (24.3%). Māori also make up more than 10% of the population of the Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Wellington regions. If work or lifestyle takes you to any of these regions, you’ll find Māori culture more visible than in other parts of the country.
