In contrast, the tear index and tensile index, important parameters representing the mechanical properties, of PVA fiber paperwere far lower than those of cellulosic paper. The discrepancy canbe explained by the fact that the PVA fiber paper obtained herewas made from the PVA fiber instead of PVA solution, the latter ofwhich can be indeed used to make paper sheet with the tear indexand tensile index similar to those of cellulosic paper. As a matterof fact, PVA fiber possesses inherently poor mechanical proper-ties, which makes it inferior to cellulosic paper when applied tomake paper. However, in our present work, significant improvement in the mechanical properties of PVA fiber paper using CNCCas strength agent was successfully achieved, which would set anattractive base for an ecofriendly and cost-effective manufacturingpotential for the production of PVA fiber paper sheet with desired mechanical properties.
