There are two sets of longitudinal prestressing cables (see Fig. 14). The primary function of one set is to withstand the negative moments during construction (by the cantilever method). Some of these cables, of varying length, run horizontally in the deck slab; the remainder have draped profiles with anchorage in the girder web. The other set of cables is located
in the lower slab for positive moment near midspan. Most of these are draped and anchored in the deck slab.
