Muñoz et al. (2008) also identified the presence of at least one friend from school as a protective factor. Adolescents with at least one school friend decreased their delinquent behavior and psychopathic traits over a period of time. This suggests that school friends may be a protective factor for adolescents who demonstrate psychopathic traits; however, this has not been examined across different types of environments. Barry et al. (2008) also found support for this in younger children, as psychopathic traits decreased over time in children with higher social competence.
