Feasibility and Compliance. An eligibility assessment
form was completed for all participants and
the Self-E⁄cacy Intervention Activity Log was used
to record feasibility data related to (a) recruitment
(e.g., reasons for nonparticipation [refusal] and
noneligibility such as the number of babies admitted
to the NICU who would not be discharged with
their mothers, prematurity, etc.) and (b) timing regarding
the intervention (e.g., time from delivery to
intervention, discharge to telephone follow-up,
length of session in-hospital and by telephone) for
those in the intervention group. The activity log was
also utilized to document the delivery of the selfe⁄
cacy intervention including e⁄cacy-enhancing
Acceptability. The Maternal Satisfaction with the
Self-E⁄cacy Intervention Questionnaire was developed
by the researcher to assess the general
acceptability of the intervention and was administered
to all mothers in the intervention group at 8
weeks postpartum regardless of their method of infant
feeding.The questionnaire consisted of11items
rated on a 5-point Likert-type scale with options
ranging from 1(strongly disagree) and 5(strongly
agree). The statements sought to ascertain information
about intervention bene¢ts, duration, mode of
delivery of the intervention, and satisfaction. The
questionnaire also included four open-ended
questions to determine what, if anything, the researcher
or others did that may have increased or
decreased breastfeeding self-e⁄cacy.
