The tea ceremony is a well-orchestrated series of events. It takes place in a chashitsu, which is a building or a room in which the ceremony is performed. The ritual involves meeting the guests, a purification with fresh water in a stone basin, walking through the grounds of the teahouse, watching the tea being prepared, consuming food and drinking the tea.Together, the chashitsu, roji (tea garden), and mizaya (preparation rooom) should provide the best physical and spiritual setting for expressing this hospitality.
