3.1 Design 3.1.1 Material Piping material selection can have a bearing on the safety implications of pneumatic testing. Materials with proven toughness are preferred (eg. Impact tested carbon steel preferred to non-impact tested) as this will minimize the size of any exclusion zones during testing. Material Quality Pipe material quality shall be a consideration when assessing pneumatic testing. As a minimum, longitudinal welds shall be 100% radiographed and, welds in welded fittings shall, wherever possible, be butt welds and shall be 100% radiographed with surface breaking NDE applied on all welds within the pressure envelope. 3100% MT or PT prior to making the attachment weld.
