Situation in the Dominican Republic
From 1961 to 1966 the political situation in the Dominican Republic was very unstable. General Trujillo Molina ruled the republic as a dictation from 1930 until his assassination IN 1961. After a transition period, Juan Bosch was elected president but served only nine months before being overthrown by a military coup. In April 1965, a rebel group under Colonel Caamano Deno temporarily seized power, only to be ousted four days later by a junta under General Wessin y Wessin, which in turn was replaced after nine days by a regime headed by General Imbert Barreras. The city of Santo Domingo was the main battleground in a city war between the right-wing forces of General Imbert and the left-wing forces of Colonel Caamano.
