Most recently, there has been interest in
bring your own device (BYOD) or bring your
own technology (BYOT) policies in K-12
schools (see Johnson, Adams, & Cummins,
2012). In these instances, schools allow students
to bring their own MCDs — either as a preferred
device specified by the school or any device the
student may own. Schools see this as a feasible
alternative to providing desktop computers or
school-owned MCDs to every students and as a
viable vehicle to leveraging the devices students
already own and in which they are comfortable.
