Information poverty is furthermore not only of a political, cultural and socio-economic nature. We live in a new
emerging global information society where we are, more than ever before, dependent on creation of, access to, sharing
and manipulation of information. This has created new power relationships and also raised questions and concerns such
as the fundamental freedom of people, the right to freedom of expression and communication, the right of access to
information and the fair distribution of information in the market place. This emerging global information society and the
growing divide between the “information have” and “information have nots” is therefore also a serious moral concern.
