3. Phase change materials for thermal energy storage
Amongst above thermal heat storage techniques, latent heat thermal energy storage is particularly more attractive to other due to its ability to provide high-energy storage density per unit mass and per unit volume in a more or less isothermal process, i.e. store heat at a constant temperature corresponding to the phase-transition temperature of PCM. Thus, PCMs release large amounts of energy upon freezing in the form of latent heat and absorb equal amounts of energy from the immediate environment upon melting. Number of PCMs were
