Handling Refrigerant
If it is necessary to open any part of the refrigerant system for repairs, it will be necessary to isolate or remove the refrigerant charge before opening any part of the unit.
If the unit is equipped with isolation valves, the refrigerant can be isolated (Suggestion: the time of isolation is less than 4 hours) in either the condenser or evaporator/ compressor while making any necessary repairs.
Evacuating Refrigerant
1. Remove refrigerant and N2 according to environment protection guidelines after leak checking.
2. Ensure storage tanks have been cleaned and vacuumed to remove any non-condensable material or contaminants.
3. Leak check storage container.
4. Ensure that the relief valves are designed for the refrigerant you will store.
5. Ensure the storage vessel is rated to hold the necessary pressure and refrigerant being reclaimed.
6. Check the quality of the existing refrigerant in the unit. Sample for water and non-condensable elements that may be within that refrigerant.
7. Check the machine with a vacuum instrument to confirm proper evacuation. Verify with the manufacture recommendation for that unit. See relative SOP.
