This investigational study tried to view
opinions of Japanese in-service teachers
in comparison with graduate students in
terms of their stance between
empowerment and protectionism of
Media Information Literacy. This
argument was recently advocated by
UNESCO, and explained importance to
take balance. But, UNESCO has put
more strength on empowerment.
However, there are severe problematic
cases of students to use Social Network
Systems were appeared with growth of
social Internet infrastructure. As results,
the author confirmed rather positive
opinions to enhancement in graduate
students. On the other side, in-service
teachers took a neutral stance. Higher
respect in students’ active decision
making was confirmed in both groups.
