The problem is I don't think any of your premises are defensible. I remember reading "The Open Window" in high school, and it was a good story. The storyline didn't confuse, the purpose of the story seemed self-evident, and while the language is of its time, that time wasn't all that long ago, meaning that it isn't very hard to follow. The story was, after all, written within the lifetime of people still alive.
Honestly, I think you'd be better off with another thesis. It's an amusing story, one that I've never forgotten -- and I wasn't particularly keen on high school English class, LOL.
