The results provide evidence that self-efficacy, the goal orientations ‘mastery-approach’, ‘mastery-avoidance’ and ‘performance-approach’, as well as learning behaviour all change over time during a teaching period. They are not stable traits during a teaching period. A decrease in self-efficacy, mastery-approach, mastery-avoidance and performance- approach and an increase in surface learning approach were found. Only the goal orientation ‘performance-avoidance’ did not change. For the total group, there was no reported change in deep learning approach, however after analysing the results for nationality, reported deep learning decreased in German students while it increased in Dutch students.
