The myths are rational in that they “explain” the way in which activities, whose origins may be symbolic or social, are linked to appropriate technical objectives (Tolbert, 1988, p. 103). Similarly, Trice and Beyer (1984) define a myth as “a dramatic narrative of imagined events, usually used to explain origins or transformations of something … an unquestioned belief about the practical benefits of certain techniques and behaviors that is not supported by demonstrated facts” (p. 655).
