During winter, larval krill vertical distributions were
similar to those observed during fall, but integrated
abundances were approximately half, albeit with many
fewer observations. Euphausia superba was dominant
(495%) only at the most northern locations in companion
net tows, with both E. crystallorophias (26–93%) and
T. macrura (3–63%) being important in the remainder of
the study area .
Larval krill are believed to overwinter over the shelf, using
the winter sea-ice as a refuge and food source, and may be
most abundant directly under the ice
