This task is highly variable and obviously very personal. Where reasonable, the student's parents or primary caregiver should be the trainer in these types of activities. The teacher should be a facilitator or trainer of the parents. In some circumstances, however, the student-teacher relationship may be such that this level of interaction is appropriate. Because the respondent to the assessment indicated that this skill was not one of independence, obtain further feedback from the respondent as to the specific item(s) that were being referred to in the response.
