5S
Two 5S workshops were conducted in both the nursing
and physician work spaces and the supply areas,
resulting in the central relocation of all supplies to a
single area. Previously, supplies were dispersed throughout
the department, with staff moving from one area
to another to locate multiple supplies for a single patient
experience. To further improve efficiency beyond centralization,supplieswerearrangedbycategoryandcolorcoded
to provide standardization, a key aspect in establishing
a highly reliable Lean organization. Similar to other studies,10
staff anecdotally report that the time to find and
gather supplies per patient greatly reduced (G1 minute)
