OBJECTIVES
1.2 The brief divided the research into two strands, which ran in parallel:
Strand 1 has examined the ways that urban green spaces are used and by whom, what
users want from them, what they currently provide and the benefits they bring to the
quality of life for people in the urban environment.
Strand 2 has identified and examined innovative and alternative approaches to
creating, managing and maintaining urban green spaces, especially those that involves
the community.
1.3 Work on Strand 1 was intended to address a number of objectives, namely to:
Provide reliable identification of different categories of users of urban green spaces and
how they use the range of types of such spaces, especially children and young people,
the elderly, disabled people and those from an ethnic minority background.
Determine the frequency and extent of use of urban green spaces and how this varies
by different types of users and geographic location.
