9 For more than 20 years, Thai people have been immersed in the "Made in Thailand" idea, initiated by a popular song of the same name. Recently, another trend is coming equally popular and it's all based on Lanna style, built on the strength of culture inherent in the eight northern Thai provinces. This is not a local phenomenon. At national level, a program has been set up to promote Lanna style, and to monitor and develop the Lanna trend. Its aim is to enhance competitiveness and add value to the art and craft products of the region This initiative is a solution to multiple rising problems such as marketing pressures due to the introduction of new market players from neighboring countries and copying of original products. Furthermore, our designers need greater knowledge of Lanna culture with opportunities to develop themselves; exchange of creativity need to be implemented. (Excerpted from COMPASS Magazine.
