Once there was a lion with a long beautiful mane. One day it walked to the river and saw its reflection in the water. The more it looked, the happier it was. It said to the rabbit in the grass. "Little rabbit, don't you think I am beautiful?"
Without waiting for the lion to finish speaking, the rabbit, frightened by the voice of the lion ran and hid in the tree hole.
One day, the vain lion went to the river again to admire it's reflection. A kind hearted tortoise came up to it and said "dear lion, run for your life, the hunter has already reached the Riverside."
However, the lion was not afraid. Only after the hunter fired a shot at it, did it run to the grass to hide.
Only after the hunter left did the lion feel a pang of pain on its head. Turns out its mane got entangled with the grass and it couldn't get it out.
The lion roared in panic. The monkey on the tree heard the Lion's cries, jumped down and bit it's mane, saving it.
The lion, having lost its mane did now look as good as before. However, it gained the friendship of a few little animals.
