In summer 1987 a Mathematics Working Group for National Curriculum was constituted. It was made up of nine mathematics educationists, three head teachers, four educational administrators, two academics, one industrialist and one member of the New Right, although not all served for the full term. On 21 August 1987 the Secretary of State for Education, K. Baker informed the chair of the group of their report dates (30 November 1987 and 30 June 1988)
