For example, community-based charcoal and wood vinegar production will probably result in more ‘leakage’ of
gases than say, for example, fractional distillation in a laboratory. However, even rustic versions of wood/bamboo vinegar appear to be made
up of 80 to 90 percent water and around 200 different organic compounds that would otherwise be lost to the atmosphere under ordinary
conditions. These compounds include ascetic acid, methanol (wood alcohol), acetone, wood oils, and tars in varying amounts.”
