Conclusions
A new design methodology for minimizing the scale-up risksfor bubble column reactors is proposed. The approach is basedon utilizing the heat exchanging tubes to form small columnswithin the large reactor that duplicate solid wall columns.Important parameters can then be examined on pilot scalebubble columns. This approach offers the following advan-tages:• A simple, yet efficient, way of designing large scale bub-ble column reactors via reactor compartmentalization intosmall size columns.• Better prediction of the performance of bubble columnsbased on a better control of the effect of scale.• A more uniform bubble size.
