Therefore, the present review indicates two
things. There remains a need for a rigorous evalua-
tion of the nursing curriculum which encompasses
all aspects from cont ent to outcome, including pro-
cess. In addition there is a pressing need to provide
rigorous research which will inform funders and
purchasers of nursing education in order that they
can make informed decisions about future direc-
tions in the nursing curriculum.
The significance of this need for rigorous evi-
dence based research in the context of the current
NMC consultation on the future of pre registration
education in the UK cannot be underestimated.
To make major changes such as this should not just
rely on people’s opinions but hard evidence of what
is happening.
