We ran the same experiment with a threshold of 50 kips, i.e., an y chromosome with a weight greater than 50 kips was ignored and not checked for validity . This eliminated all but six of the candidates for the initial pool, because larger areas from the set of selected sizes caused the total weight to be greater than the threshold. The resulting chromosomes for the initial pool were not close to being valid solutions, however . The best initial chromosome produced in this fashion had
over 1400 violations, and a maximum unity check of 7.81, very far from acceptable. The others had both more violations
and higher maximum unity checks.
